South Hams Pubs

If there’s one thing about pubs in South Devon, you’re almost always guaranteed a great selection of local ales from micro brewers. This is certainly the case at The George Inn, Blackawton, where we are Cask Marque accredited. We sell Teignworthy (Newton Abbot) as our house ale alongside guest offerings from Dartmoor (Princetown), South Hams Brewery and other craft brewers in and around the South Hams and the wider West Country, such as Cornwall's popular brewers Skinners and St. Austell.

South Devon pubs aren’t all about ale, for example, our wine list offers a range of wines from around the world. A good selection of lagers, Westcountry ciders, Whiskeys and the usual spirits, soft drinks and fruit juices are available. We also serve seriously good fair-trade Black + White coffee, lovely hot chocolate and a range of teas.

Not many South Hams pubs can claim to have their own beer festival. Our Devon beer festival runs in early May (over the Bank Holiday weekend of the International Festival of Wormcharming, held on the Sunday) and features some of the best cask ales from West Country breweries.

What better way to experience Devon food, than at one of the South Hams friendliest pubs?

Food is served from 12 noon to 2 pm and 6 pm, (5pm on Fridays) until 9 pm (not on Sunday evenings during December to end of February).

Our focus is on serving food the way you want it. We’ll try and meet your needs, whether it's allergies, larger portions, smaller portions or food to take away.

With the option of a takeaway from The George Inn, a decision on whether your group has ‘Fish&Chips’, ‘Indian’ or ‘Pizza’ is not necessary - each person can have what tickles their fancy as we can provide all of these (& more).

We are one of a selection of South Hams pubs signed up to ‘Love the Flavour’ – a scheme that recognises our commitment to using local produce and Devon suppliers.

Our South Hams pub serves roast Sunday Lunch the traditional way, table service at the affordable price of £9.95 per person. Booking in advance is necessary. The roast meat options change weekly and if you don’t fancy meat a vegetarian option is available.

A popular option is our roast for groups starting at £25.00 for 4-6 adults, dependent on appetite. This consists of a whole free-range roast chicken with all the usual accompaniments and is available to carve at your table (allowing children, and adults, just the bits that you know you like).

“Just like Sunday lunch at home but with the beautiful surroundings of the South Hams countryside and without the washing up! Really good value.”
