Retreat Seekers

If you fancy a relaxing day of sitting on a steam train, admiring the south-west scenery, there are a couple of lines to choose from. Totnes to Buckfastleigh is popular, as there are attractions at both ends of the line; the Totnes end has the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm and at the Buckfastleigh end is the Buckfastleigh Butterflies and Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary, as well as Buckfast abbey. Dartmouth to Paignton is also a well-loved service. For those that would like to view the scenery further inland, or further out on the water, the company have created the Round Robin Package where you can travel by boat, bus and train. There are also riverboat trips along the river Dart if trains and buses aren’t for you.

National Trust sites are also in abundance, with many coast and countryside buildings and gardens locally. These can be seen in the map below.

If a relaxing spa treatment is more what you are after, the brand new Dartmouth Golf and Country Club Spa offers quality Elemis treatments and leisure facilities, including an indoor swimming pool, gym, and sauna; the spa itself is surrounded by the two stunning golf courses, both created with sweeping fairways and ample all year round trees.
